Announcing The Birmingham Comics Festival… Taking place on 18th April 2015!
The Birmingham Comic Festival is looking to place Birmingham fairly and squarely back on the comic convention map, with a show designed to make comics and their fans the absolute heart of the festival. Taking place at the city’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground, this centrepiece one day convention will be the culmination of a number of intimate smaller events being planned for Britain’s second biggest city as part of the festival’s aim to properly celebrate comics past and present: with screenings, exhibitions, workshops and signings this exciting new event promises the opportunity to also experience the cutting edge of British comics today. “The modern British comics industry is thriving,” explained the organisers, “It is being driven by some talented independent creators and exciting smaller publishers and we are looking to attract a number of them to exhibit at the festival as we want to showcase their work!”
However, the organisers are also keen to stress that the festival will be featuring a wide range of mainstream comics talent, with home-grown artists associated with The Beano and 2000AD rubbing shoulders with international creators more usually known for their work in the pages of comics published by Marvel, DC, Dynamite and Image. And, although no guests have been officially announced as yet, the festival will feature some well known international creators making their first British comic convention appearances. “We should be making our first guest announcements very soon, and we can promise some big surprises. As befits the tone of the festival, the creators will represent a wide range of comic talent from a wide, and perhaps unexpected, range of publishers.” Tickets for The Birmingham Comic Festival will go on sale shortly, but exhibitor tables can be booked already through www.thecomicfestival.com
