Review: Well now, I don't think I can quite recall the last time I read something outside of Harry Potter that featured so heavily on magic and their incantations. Which is a nice change of pace too in my view. I'm glad that the Romeros and Cabrera use the magics here so well and in a variety of nice ways at that. They've also nicely managed to keep a nice pace going with the storyline and not rushing anything at all. Even where young Riley is concerned and the potential he has. His learning in the ways of magics and how to cast spells feels very natural to me. Koda's art certainly gives me nothing to complain about, and Hughes' colors make it look really great too. Victoria's (a kick ass woman if I might say) eye color is rather beautifully done as well. Normally I wouldn't even comment on something like that, but in the short amount of time I've read all 4 of the current issues of this series, her eyes have (in my view anyway) been given a nice emphasis. Again, I have to give credit to the coloring work of Hughes.
Like I mentioned earlier about the incantations, I think that's where the lettering work of Jaymes Reed does come to shine. Even when Ra is speaking it shines there too pretty nicely. And boy is Ra's face not a particularly pretty one! I can see why he'd wear some bird like looking skull to hide that. You gotta admire the ballsyness of him and his co-horts for being so pro-active in some very unpleasant ways. If the Gods they name theirselves after was watching all their moves, I have no doubt some major butt kickings would likely occur unless something prevented them from doing so.
I like that the writing team doesn't hold back, which gives us a very clear view of just how serious things are. Especially where Anubis is concerned, cause if that's actually his head and not just a mask. I can definitely see what Ayo (IAM good guy) does to him coming back to haunt him if and when Anubis ever decides to go for revenge. Though I have to wonder the bad guys in this story (known collectively as Horus) possibly made it easier then it really appeared. Or if the home team crew of the IAM really are just that damn good. Only time will tell with that. Same for whatever mystery is surrounding Riley that involves the IAM head being in my view a puppet more or less.
So if you are looking for a good story with some great pacing, along with easily likable characters with fantastic team work. I highly recommend checking out The Agency. As it only being 4 issues in so far (as far as I'm aware currently), there's not much catching up you have to do either!
