Summary: As the crew is being hunted by Blackbane security droids, there is a greater danger heading their way. Time is running out for these salvagers.
Review: For quite some time now, Salvagers has been a title I've been pretty curious about and recently, I finally had the chance to sate said curiousity about this title. And was it worth it? Oh yes, yes it was darn well worth it! Bob Salley has a nice pace going for him in this story and manages to keep from over doing it on the dialogue. He also does a pretty good job in spinning two separate tales and then inter-mixing them together. One being a small crew of Salvagers' attempts to salvage a Darzinean Warspray ship and the crap they unexpectedly wind up getting themselves into. And the other story being a member of their crew by the name of Brigby finding himself in some trouble with a crime family. Something Bob gives us a look at in issue 2 and I imagine once ol' Brigby gets himself out of the mess he's in. He'll likely be making more of an effort to keep himself out of trouble. Well hopefully anyway!
I have to admit, Brigby to me when I first saw him, made me think of WWE's R-Truth even though Brig's a green alien fella who is able to re-grow limbs. Hey, maybe if this gets a live action treatment, Truth could play Brigby! I wonder if George is a fan of R-Truth and decided to give a vibe of these two looking similar? Of course I very well could be imagining it all so do feel free to tell me! The design of the Harrier ship our motley 4 person Salvage crew (five if you count the ship's intelligence) fly about in is very appropriate giving that they salvage things. Sure they could have a customized look for it but I doubt it would be a liked thing by their superiors. Course I imagine our motley crew probably wouldn't care a lot about what their superiors may think.
If the sweet art by George is nice on its own, then the colors by DeSiKa make it look even better. And has me wondering if Tea's hair color is legit or something she did on her own. Cause purple is a representative of evil people! Granted, she hasn't shown any evil tendencies just yet but that could always change. Though there was that one little teasing scene (in my view at least) we see in these 3 issues that she does with the ship's captain Bill Roenick. Which makes me wonder just what sort of relationship those two have. Although I'd love to see them realize they feel like parents when they likely have to keep Ty'r (huge alien fella!) and Brig from killing one another. Those two to me kinda act more like brothers would then two co-workers. Something Bob does a great job with as well.
HdE does a nice job with the lettering in this and hopefully as this series goes on, we see him branching out with that when it comes to other races that exist in this world of Salvage teams and giving each race's dialogue their own look and feel.
I'm curious though if G-9 is gonna be joining the crew after all is said and done. As despite his being an a vessel droid of the Darzinean Warspray the crew was sent to salvage, he seems like a rather likable fella. Though I could see some not appreciating his way of being upfront with things.
Bob Salley has certainly given us a mystery as to why the Warspray ship was abandoned and the lengths used to try and destroy it. Which I actually found to be pretty original too. I'm also liking that any cussing on here is basically in symbols, something that takes me back to the 90's with the X-Men. Good times that. I know one thing, after reading all three of issues of this title, I am definitely wanting more! And I think you will too after you get Salvagers in front of you and spend a little quality reading time with it! So if outer space fun is your thing, this will be for you.
