Escape From Jesus Island #3
Wisdumb Productions
Directer: Shawn French
Cinematographer: Mortimer Glum
Letterer: Peeter Parkker
Reviewer: Rob Wrecks
Summary: The adventure continues! When we left off, the Vatican Black Ops had just landed on Malsum Island... badly. Will they complete their mission and steal the reborn Son of God from ReGen Corp, or end up as the latest victims of the Antichrist's horde?
Review: I'm beginning to think this book is not ever gonna stop throwing surprises my way that have my eyebrows going high in shock. Proof that Shawn is a friggin' master when it comes to writing. I know I'm going to be sad when he finishes this book but I know for a certainty I'll be back for whatever he does after this. As you may remember, the extraction team faced complications at the end of the second issue that resulted in the loss of their transportation. Which, you know, is some major suckage for sure. Mary giving her respect to the fallen pilot here in issue 3 was a nice touch and starts to show her just how serious this whole thing is. Cause reality shattering moments are always a bundle of fun, especially when they really screw with any pre-conceived notions about how this whole thing may go.
Speaking of reality shattering, if this whole series had a sound track for it, I'd have to say that the likes of Lamb of God, Rob Zombie, and any other hard core metal bands out there would be perfect to have playing along as events go on. Them old Sunday Church songs just wouldn't fit that well. Naturally you could try, but the death and genetic experiments would likely really ruin the positive vibes those songs bring to the table.
I love that this book doesn't hold back, whether its Shawn's writing or Mortimer's head crushing art. It leaves you never knowing what to really expect. Especially if you happen to think you're a Hammer of God for example. Gotta hand it to that guy though, he's a certified bad ass! And it'd take someone really special to bring him to life on screen.
A few things I'm curious about however, is if whether or not Yeshua/Damien that we keep seeing through out this book is Subject 666 since he has the power to heal. And if he is, then where is his brother? Since it kind of seems like he would need to stay as close as possible in order to help him keep functioning. Also, since both clearly have power, along side Goliath's brute strength, why haven't they along with all the other cast aways taken over yet? Clearly it would go in their favor since Damien himself could just bring back any of his brethren who fell. But then again, Anna could have failsafes just for that aside from armed security. Plus whether or not Goliath would even go to Damien's side.

A certain nurse would probably sleep with the big guy if it meant keeping him in line. Something that I bet would require a hefty amount of cash on her part! Miss Nurse just seems like the type who want payment before doing that, even if it is for the greater good of the company.
If there's one thing I absolutely loved about this book, it would be the use of the line 'This is why we can't have nice things.' This coming from a divine figure with rage issues and a likelyhood to kill you as soon as he looked at you is really great! And personally, I would have loved to see a longer fight between Oleg and Goliath. I'm sure it would have been a great work out for the big lug, not to mention some great stress relief considering all the crap he has to deal with!
Something tells me however that the place the team have found themselves in is not exactly a good thing. And it makes me wonder if we'll see the other brother in this area. Not to mention if he's possibly a lot more worse then what Damien is. A sunny disposition is unlikely to be a thing for the guy considering what we learn about him in this issue. The purification ritual is also a thing that doesn't sound particularly good, but I am really curious to see what its like. My curiousity will likely hate me after finding out later!
So if for some ungodly reason you haven't picked up this issue or previous issues, then what are you waiting for!? You won't even need a confessional!
Editor's Note: Are you ready to handle the Holy Carnage without the need for a confessional? If so, then head here!
