[SPOILERS!!]
Review: I wasn't expecting a time skip this issue, but I liked it. It felt needed after all the drama that was the previous 12 issues. And it was great to have a nice, quiet set up issue after last issue's mind-blowing revelations and action. Shand is still going strong with the story, having a real tight focus on the students this time around. There are some interesting things going on with Skye, Sela's daughter, and I'm not sure if the opening page is a peek into the future or something I just missed a long time ago. But the first page shows off Skye seemingly killing the big bad that we were introduced to last issue, and yet throughout the issue he seems very much alive still.
Hauntingly so.
I guess we shall see as time goes, but you can color me interested for sure. I also like the Wilgaf has joined the students, and Wulf seems to have gotten back to being the Wulf I personally liked from the beginning. But this is one issue, and that remains to be seen if he'll stay like that. A lot has definitely changed for these characters and the shifting dynamics feel very organic for the story. If there's anything I wasn't a fan of it's that the subplots featuring the new big bad may be moving a bit too fast.
I'm not sure yet though, but I hope not. I want him to at least plague them for the next year.
Riveiro's art is really nice. It's not as clean as other artists have portrayed this world and these characters, but his edgy style still lends a sense of style that meets that young adult fiction feel Shand is going for with this era of Grimm Fairy Tales. These are teenagers, they're edgy and crisp and that really comes across in his lines. I like it.
Not a lot happened this issue, it was rather slow, except for a few things this was mostly just set up. We did get to meet a new student, Lance du Loc whom I'm unsure of yet whether I like him. Not because of what they're hinting at for him, but simply because of how he acts. He's like the new Wulf almost. We also got a possible Ali/Hailey romance starting up, even though she is a ghost now roaming the halls he's the only one who can see and communicate with her. It's all so very fascinating how the characters dynamics have changed in just one issue.
I'm really looking forward to see what comes next for all these kids. And I also very much fear for what's coming for them as well.

[SPOILERS!!]
Review: You know, I'm half-and-half on whether I enjoyed this issue. I thought it was alright, but I also felt it had the potential to be even more. Perhaps it's because SO MUCH happened last issue that an entire issue dedicated to not much happening was a sort of 180 that it's still taking me time to process it. Much like Janey wanted to take things slow and steady this issue I feel Mendoza and Martin had wished to do the same.
This issue sees Janey heading further south in Florida and finding herself at a country club that's way more than meets the eye. Filled with sex hounds and voyeurs, this issue actually ends up being the raunchiest issue published yet in this volume. Not that that's a bad thing, but it definitely did surprise me.
I do feel bad for Janey though, all she wants is a break and literally she can't seem to get one. Something all to well known to her and I almost feel bad for these KKK members simply because I can only imagine what hells she plans on releasing upon them next issue just out of pure frustration. – On second though, they're KKK members, I don't feel bad for them in the slightest. Eff'em up good Janey!
Really what I think is the worst part about this issue is it's just another small tale in her grand adventure that's stalling until we finally get answers for all the secrets that's been plaguing us readers since the beginning, and for Janey since last issue. And I'm just ready to see all sorts of crud hit the fan with whatever Janey ends up discovering.
Also it doesn't help that I feel Tramp has finally found an artist that I don't feel fits the series' style. After a continuous string of successful artists I feel as if Xiu just doesn't meet the standard. Janey actually looks really good in her human form throughout the entire story, very sexy. But literally everyone else and even Janey in her Tramp form just don't look very good. The whole comic looks muddled and scratchy and there's a panel where Janey is being eaten by some shadows of her past and you can't even tell she's in the panel. Granted only her face is in the panel but the side of her being displayed is her iconic heart-shaped cheek mark, and even that's distorted beyond repair.
Overall, this was an alright issue, but it also just felt like everyone involved didn't want to give it their all this time around. It felt like a very lazy issue. And that's very sad.
Final Score: 1 Tennis “Instructor” - if you know what I mean – out of 5
