Summary: Upon hearing news of Sue's pregnancy, Mark takes her home for the first time to see her family whom she left years ago. She did not come from a happy home. Her hometown, informally known as "Cascade", was cursed by a wronged native chief, and that was just the beginning....
Review: Now I don't know if this is how anyone else has felt once they started reading this. But for me, once I got to reading this I could nearly immediately feel that something was very, very wrong. And that the only person who seemed remotely no where near that feeling of wrongness was the main character, Mr. Protective himself. A certain picture his girlfriend has that keeps showing up through out these two issues also has a hand in the creepy wrongness factor as well. Though to be honest, I was mildly confused about a certain scene near the beginning involving the girlfriend's family since it seemed so out of place. But eventually it actually made a lot of sense for me and for those quicker to catch on to subtle things than myself, you might catch on to what is clearly a warning. Sadly a warning Mr. Protective doesn't see until much later, and had he been thinking a bit more he likely would have realized he should have backed off on things when it comes to his lady love's family. But when you think about it, it comes down to one pretty much thinking its just a big case of nervousness.
The art by Larry and the colors provided by Chris and Renato were certainly things I had no complaints about. In fact their work on this book to bring it to life really helps in that whole creepy wrongness factor I mentioned earlier. I'd be interested in seeing how this same result would be achieved in a live adaptation of this comic. I'm not entirely sure on who did the covers for both of these issues, but that creepy vibe is even present in those too. My views on an ex boyfriend named Steve that shows up in this not being all that trustworthy is somewhat justifable in my view due to a crap move he pulls a little later. Luckily there's no death involved but come on now, you don't mess with a person's gas! People need that to get places you know! Though there's times when I think that Steve is quite possibly the smartest character in this whole series. There being talk of a curse placed on the lady love's home town is certainly an interesting aspect to this story.

The fact it seemingly plays a part in the present with out even being all that noticable and likely more attributed to bad luck then on the curse is a nice touch as well. Heck at times in this story I was feeling a vibe that made me think of an old 80's movie called Spellbinder. And if you've ever seen that film you may get what I'm talking about. Course the lack of witchcraft, large amounts of deceit, and hearts being literally ripped out aren't present with this story. But what Chris does with this story clearly shows why none of that is even needed here. And while I could go on about this title, I want to avoid any potential spoilers I might do. I will say though that there's a lesson to be learned here when it comes to how one should actually LISTEN to their girlfriend. Though I am curious if there is more in mind for this story Chris has or if this two issue series is all there is. So if you're looking to be a little creeped out, check this out!
