BULLET GAL:
It's Not You, It's Me TRADE PAPERBACK EDITION
12 ISSUES, 348 PAGES
MARCH 2015 - IF? COMMIX IN CONJUNCTION WITH UNDER BELLY COMICS
WORDS & PICTURES BY
ANDREZ BERGEN
with guest images from 23 fellow artists including Walter Geovani (Red Sonja), and cover art by Niagara Detroit.
The 'Bullet Gal' series (via Australian indie imprint IF? COMMIX) has been a raging critical success over the past few months, combining as it does the pulp/noir of yesteryear, with a sci-fi/dystopia and golden age comic books, in a dada-inspired collage of cut-ups, sequential art, innovative painting, digital manipulation, and an overt glut of ammunition.
Set in the city of Heropa sometime in the 1940s (or not), it follows the path of teenage vigilante Mitzi, a.k.a. fledgling cape Bullet Gal, as she comes to grips with a metropolis that teeters on the edge of love, lust, betrayal and a wad of masked superheroes with hidden agendas aplenty.
All these moments skillfully applied by expat Australian writer ANDREZ BERGEN (based in Tokyo, who also did the artwork here), who's previously published 4 novels and worked with Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), as well as on the comic books TALES TO ADMONISH, TOBACCO-STAINED MOUNTAIN GOAT, and TRISTA & HOLT.
The 12-issue arc of BULLET GAL, collected here, has been compared with SIN CITY and VELVET, and after a successful Kickstarter makes the transition to trade paperback in its entirety, for the first time available in North America thanks to UNDER BELLY COMICS.
Helping with the transition from monthly comic book are 23 international artists.
This is mind-blowing stuff from a writer heavily influenced by Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Matt Fraction and Dashiell Hammett, and who doubles as an artist into Jim Steranko, Jack Kirby, David Aja, Barry Smith, Will Eisner, Man Ray and Terry Gilliam.

BULLET GAL FEEDBACK
"The writing is razor sharp, the art stark, and strikingly beautiful."

"Stunningly crafted... Bullet Gal's mesmerizing blend of noir crime caper and wry sci-fi punk is utterly sublime."
SCI-FI JUBILEE

"It's a universe that's being constructed and then simultaneously deconstructed. A revelation."
THE COMICS ALTERNATIVE
"Nothing like it in comics."
