Summary: The story focuses on the paranormal abilities and mystery adventure of a fifth grade girl by the name of Ciara Hachette. One day, Ciara used her power to solve the case of a missing person, by navigating through a haunted mansion and communicating with its deceased host. After finding the missing person, Ciara realizes her gift, and talents to help others which brings her great pride, and comfort.
Review: With story and art like this, there is no doubt a very young audience was intended, and having a fifth grader as the main character reaffirms this. There for, I believe the style is well suited and generally appealing. I can almost picture this as a Nickelodian TV series.
The extremely short length and overall novelty of this issue demonstrates a sort of tease introductory, or precursor if you will, to what could become a charming children’s piece. However, given the fickle nature of children and the overwhelming amount of entertainment that’s available to them today, I find it hard to imagine this as a stand out. If anything, this is a package of ideas and illustrations that can easily be expanded upon and re-designed into greater marketable material, if given the proper budget and management.
I’m chalking it up as an interesting advertisement or promotional device to kick start a fun filled and kid friendly paranormal investigation serial. It showcases some promising concepts and professional level art (and very traditional), but lacks a definitive direction and personality.
