Review: And we are back in the world of Ultimate 7! And volume 2 has been a fantastic read from start to finish. Not to mention having to re-write this since I lost the original. And so continuing from where issue 4 left off, a massive fight is about to erupt. And folks, its seriously not pretty. Especially with what the Sacred Guardian looks like and brings to the table. I know I sure as heck wouldn't want to come across that thing on my own and no way to defend myself! And despite the 'hot bath' as it were, at least Jennifer has some friendly company around. Another inhabitant of the planet I sure wouldn't want to run into would be the Andronicus plant. Suckers make the plant in Little Shop of Horrors look tame in comparison. And I like the fact that our main heroine isn't drawn as an overly sexy person. Kudos to Shawn Surface for that. His art, along side Zac Atkinson's colors are pretty pleasing on the eyes too. You got to hand it to the Toad King as well, while he's butt ugly as heck he does know how to throw a party. Bloody and savage it might be. But I do wonder though if he actually can get a Warrior's Soul after eating them. Dagga, simply put is a douche bag. I get he's angry about his tail. But come on, doing what he did is just going to eventually cause some kind of backlash! Love Jenny's comeback moment during this part of the story. But I think Thrasher could have made a better choice on who he gave his position too. But hey, hindsight is 20/20 and all that!
And if you have read this you'll know what I mean. And if you haven't yet for whatever reason. Well pick this up so you'll see her little awesome moment. Mr. Toad never knew what hit him! If you're also the type who's easily squeamish when it comes to blood and the like. You may not want to read this. As there will be that sort of thing in this book. Shawn Surface's art skills are wonderfully persistent through out the book. And while I do enjoy Robert's writing in this, I do at times feel like its a bit fast paced. Making some events happen a little too quickly. At least from my perspective anyway. I get that time is flowing like it should be in the book, but despite that. As I said, it still feel that some things happened a little too quickly. For example, the friendly relationship between Jenny and Mr. Pinky. Her shedding a tear for him after something he was forced to do due to his surprising life span. Again, I realize that for them its probably been several weeks since they first met and have had time to bond. But I as the reader don't even really see that. Another example is with the events on the planet Gosha. Although one thing I found amusing was Thrasher's reaction to snow. Personally I also love how he's quick to improvise in a tough situation. And I know I'm bound to probably disgust someone with my more than likely bizarre thinking in this.
But for anyone who's read the book, think there could be some kind of more then friendly relationship between our wee Jenny and Thrasher at some point? Or would that just be considered beastiality? Considering he's the first she finds of the warriors and they seem to hit it off fairly well afterwards. Just one of those things that get you thinking about it. And maybe shuddering a little. I love the addition of the Orca Dragons on Gosha. As they help to further make things more difficult for Jenny and the others. Rather then things being somewhat easy for them. Not to mention their design is just really neat! Another neat thing is what the Mammoth race are able to do with their crops on their ship. And if you haven't read this yet, you'll see why I think its so neat when you do get to this point. Thrasher yet again shows his quick skill in improvisation. Which from what I can tell was a loud success on his part. Also going back to my earlier issue about things moving fast. Was how they quickly managed to find something Mallick and his people had been searching for. I'm not sure if I'm just being picky or what. But this along with my earlier issue are some points of issue for me. I don't know for sure if Robert had intended for a quick pace in the action area, or if it was a completely unintentional thing. I admit that I like how their drop ship can change its own design. Another way of showing just how clever the Homoagints could be. Blast you Overlord for being such a cruel being!
Things really seem to hit the fan once they arrived on Bucoon. Practically raising the stakes for Jenny and her crew. I know this would be one planet I wouldn't want to come back too! Girls especially wouldn't want to come back either considering what a few of the inhabitants are like! Mallick was spot on about how looks can be deceiving. And Bucoon is a very good example of that. The Bibulbanok is another fierce creature that gets introduced in this book. And is also another example of something I seriously wouldn't want to run into! As it might mean the end of my life! Wonder how someone like Wolverine would be able to handle one? Heck would salt even be effective against this wormy yet slug like creature? Not exactly an experiment I would want to try however. And considering what Queen Prockna looks like, I think one Xander Harris would be very reluctant to get near her. Although I'd suggest he just bring a rocket launcher and finish her off from a distance. Sure the ones loyal to her wouldn't like that and would try to kill him. But at least he would have taken care of her. Or he could let our next warrior known as Dargin do the honors. I mean he would have the first dibs as it is considering how much of a witch she is towards him. I got to admire the bug's determination to stay alive no matter the plan Prockna has against him. I think Scumble at one point learns the price of treachery. Guess he never learned if you do the crime you will do the time. Probably a good thing too that he never knew his mother. I mean come on, what kind of person would even consider willingly selling out their own mother!? Even if you are pretty twisted, that's just not right!
Robert cruelly leaves us with a cliffhanger, and one I'm eager to see the conclusion of. So if you're looking to see what happens with Jenny and the Warriors as they search out Dargin. As well as what happens with Mallick with the cliff hanger. Get this book today! And remember folks, cheating at a game of cards is just not cool. Especially if you got the Overlord's buddy General Reen out and about in the bar!
