Summary: Jack Kurtzberg is a successful writer of young witch romance bestsellers - and he hates it so much. Suffering from writer's block, he decides to move back to his hometown, not knowing that his new neighbours are witches, the kind of demon worshippers that would kill anyone who could disturb their dominion in Westwood.
Review: Now when I started reading this issue, one of the things that popped into my head was that it felt like the plot of an Adult Entertainment film. Only with out all the Adult Pornography you'd typically see in a film like that. Not to mention having seen something almost similar sometime before reading this, but this is far superior to that film. Another thought I had is that these girls are NOT the types you want to have mad at you. I know I'd be doing what I could to keep them pleased to avoid nasty incidents! I'm curious if the poor sap the girls targeted at one point is the brother of Jack the main character. Or if our main character's brother's death was just an un-related thing.
Abel Garcia's art has me reminded of Stefano Cardoselli's, and I don't mean that as a bad thing either. Garcia's art is something I think fits the book well. And I'm assuming he handles the colors as well so it helps out even further. The cover for this book is brutal, but something that's sure to appeal to fans of Gore. Everyone is easy to tell a part and that's always a great thing. Jack's wife reminds me of a Hippie with how she dresses. Not exactly how you think a Hollywood type would dress either. I don't exactly have a lot of faith in her either since she seems to only want to be with Jack cause of his success. And if you've read this issue you'll see why I think this way. And if you haven't read this yet, you'll soon figure out what I mean.
The spell craft speak in this book is something I find more appealing then Rita Repulsa's. Big kudos to El Torres on that right there. El sets things off to a great start with a mix of hot girls, demons, and a guy just about down on his luck. I know I'm certainly curious to see why the big bad of the story seems to have an interest in Jack. I know I'd certainly hate to be in his cross hairs! Especially since the girls seem to rather like him. And if rather or not an old item from the past will have more of a significant meaning then just being an old memento. So if you're looking for something to sink your teeth into, Westwood Witches #1 is a great thing to sink them into! Especially if Witchcraft and Demonic bad guys has an appeal to you!
