Summary: Truth, Justice, and how much does it pay?
Review: Welcome to a world where the Super Heroes are more about making a buck even while someone dangles from a ledge. Boy, it makes me glad I don't live in this universe! Miguel and Suzy have managed to bring to life something that quite honestly shows a very ugly side of things when it comes to Super Heroics. Superman himself probably would cry over the whole thing. And I just know an idea like this would probably be a lot worse here in the real world. Probably even making the Economy even worse! Makes me wonder how bad the Super Villains are in this world. I think folks will be plesaed with Guerra's art in this. I know I certainly have no complaints. And while I find it somewhat neat that a lot of the characters in this book were inspired by those that have been around a long while.
I'm not particularly a fan of how douche like they are. Which is just a pretty good example of how money can sadly change people for the worst. I love how Miguel and Suzy included some extra fun in this by adding a newspaper. I do think American Icon should have stuck to singing. Although a fight between him and Superman would be something I'd love to see. American Icon is a prime example of what I meant earlier with how the heroes can be douche like in this story. And if you have read this, you'll know exactly what I mean! And if you haven't yet, well you'll soon find out! To be honest, out of all the characters in SCH #1 I think I liked Spinlar the most. Even if his way of using his power is rather disturbing. I know if I was that robber I'd sure be thinking of going on the right path after that encounter! I also rather like his suit too. Its something I could see Spider-Man wearing, or someone with similar powers in the Marvel world.
While SCH #1 didn't do a whole lot other than introduce us to some of the characters and show that things aren't necessarily all that great. I did find it all to be a pretty good read and wouldn't mind seeing just who decides to try and knock down Superhero Inc. in the future. I bet that would be a real costly fight! Hmm.. Bad pun maybe? And good luck to the original American Icon! I think you're going to need it buddy!
