Summary: The troubles for Shahrazad and her crew are only just beginning. Especially as the good Captain must now take up arms!
Review: Well after just recently taking the time to read all 3 issues of Shahrazad I currently have, I can safely say its been one heck of an interesting read so far. Although I freely admit that for some reason I was thinking this was something that featured random stories of a woman named Shahrazad through out time. Bit like an anime I once watched that was only 6 episodes long that featured an immortal chick who we saw at different points of her life. Shahrazad I think is pretty much immortal judging by what's been shown so far. How that is exactly remains unknown at this point and is unlikely to have been revealed so far in any current issues. As I understand it, there is an #0 that likely has answers for me in it. However, the assumption I mentioned previously turned out to be a bit on the wrong side. And is a lesson in why you should look up information instead of just assuming things. This strongly beautiful woman is certainly no damsel in distress, that is a certainty for sure!
The art so far has also certainly pushed boundaries with out going too far into M rated material. Which is pretty great and I imagine if this got a tv (HBO at least) or movie adaptation, the film makers would be less likely to restrain the nudity. Then again, depending on how much say the Hutchisons and Cate in the making of it, what you see in the book is likely what you'd get in the adaptation. Course I could always be wrong.
I love that with Shahrazad, there is the great possibility of a numerous amount of stories to be told. Which is true with any sort of Immortal type actually though, but with her and the few glimpses seen of her life, I can certainly imagine how she's likely to have had a far more interesting life over the years. Now I'm not exactly sure when this story is set, but the fact there's air craft on a rather big boat leads me to thinking its set possibly in current times. Though a somewhat altered current time what with the big ridable bats. Which to me I think is freaking awesome! Plus the hot if rather nastily unpleasant Sirens swimming about making the lives of men Hell. Along with other things I could mention but won't for the time being as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read this yet for some reason or another. I got to wonder though if the creative minds behind this however are fans of Janus, the Roman God of Chaos. As he himself gets a rather nice part to play on here.
Though to be honest, my only real familiarity with the God is from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. So I have to say its nice to see a version of him used elsewhere. Although whether or not he's the actual Janus remains to be seen. He's certainly a jerk however and I can't wait to see what Shahrazad does to him. Imagine it's probaby gonna be pretty darn brutal! As for the remaining members of the good Captain Shahrazad's crew, I have a feeling their chances of survival by the time this is all over with will not be of a positive thing. Eye Patch Man being apparently something of a jerk may be the next likely soul to bite the big one. So if you're wanting a good story, with some amazing art and colors. Jump on board with this title! Cause Tom and the gang at BDI are showing here once more on why you should be spending money on their titles!
