Created and Written by: Dan Barnes
Colours and Letters by: Dan Barnes
Artwork by: Paul Johnson
Reviewer: Rob Wrecks
Summary: Prudence Page isn't any ordinary girl, she's a GEEK! and one thing you should never do is cross a GEEK.
The popular kids of Pepperville High conspire to humiliate Prudence, but something goes horribly wrong. Leaving Prudence with only one thing on her mind Revenge!
Review: Now you know when you got a comic that opens up with a particularly bloody scene, you are very likely to be in for an interesting story. And Dan Barnes certainly delivers on the interesting! Heck the whole breaking of the 4th wall by introducing the characters and imaging yourself wearing different clothes really felt like this would have fit in an 80's made movie. Like Kuffs for example, though that's likely to have been done in the 90's instead, but I could be wrong. So I do have to wonder if Dan got some inspiration from movies that used that sort of a thing around the beginning of movies. And for those of you familiar with Paul Johnson's particular style of art, you can be pleased to know that this is indeed the very same Paul Johnson!
So if you were worried about there being another guy with the same name and same style of artwork, worry no more! And yeesh, it seems like other groups that would be prime targets for ridicule by the Upper Elite of High School here but in this title it certainly doesn't seem that way. Especially for our main leading lady and her two friends.
Unless of course those other certain groups do get ridiculed and it just happens off panel, which is entirely possible. One thing that stands out to me about Prudence Page (this fine title's leading lady) is her ridiculously large forehead. Heck I think Haruno Sakura from Naruto would be feeling a bit of envy herself! Has me wondering if that was intentional. Now I freely will admit that the one prime thing that I didn't care for as I read this, was the amount of girls who were nipping through out the whole book. Now I sure don't remember seeing that a lot back in High School. Not that I was actively spending my time looking of course! And I don't think the area this school is in all that cold either for that to be happening so much but I could be wrong. I don't know if this was meant to be done as a tongue in cheek kind of thing when it comes to High School girls or what. But I do feel there could have been less of it.
Aside from that one sticking point, I enjoyed what I read. I'm also liking how Dan managed to nicely give a certain kind of balance of intelligent and not so intelligent between certain jocks and cheerleaders. One of the jocks I actually felt kind of sorry for since his date brought along her friends. Him being able to get a slight measure of revenge on that was a nice touch as well. And while I'm not exactly sure what Dan has planned these days, hopefully there will be more of Revenge is Geek to come. Especially since the ending and the beginning for that matter gives us an idea of how Prudence will start up her own Carrie vibe. Only with out the spooky powers and snatching her mother into her grave thing. So if you're ready for another trip back to High School, give this a read!
