Posers [comic book]
John Pross
Written by: John Pross
Illustrated by: Emil Cabaltierra, Omi Remalante Jr., Brandon Bullock, and Justin Wood.
Article by: Derrick Crow
Summary: Posers is about a group of super heroes known as the Intergalactic Champion Squad (I.C.S.), who have been saving the world from alien invasions for years. The I.C.S. consists of Mr. Amazing (the Bankroll), Sue Ellen (the Brains), Eagle Eye (the Retired Hero), Split Second (the Speedster), Golden Beauty (the Poster Girl), Slugger (the Enforcer), and Chad (the Rookie).
They’re rich They’re famous. They’re the best of the best... They’re also scam artists! They’re a bunch of D-list super heroes who’ve been scamming the world into thinking they’ve been them from aliens o a daily basis. They’ve covered every angel. They’ve thought of everything. Except what to do if an alien warlord actually shows up and starts killing anybody with powers.
Can they scam their way out of an actual alien invasion in time to save face in front of the public who is starting to question why their saviors aren’t doing anything?
[Taken from the official Kick Starter page of Posers.]
Hotspot: There isn’t a whole lot I can say about this book, considering all the information we’ve given is right up there in the summary. The story revolves around a misfit group of scam artist super heroes who have to prove themselves in the end. Pretty straight.
But I think the part that stands out to me the most is the fact that they have powers, but are scamming people instead of helping others. I find that so fascinating, that if someone had superpowers they would use them to fake actual crime fighting. That premise alone makes this book interesting and in my opinion worthy of being made.
I do however wish more information were given about this series, like some in depth info on the characters or more page work to look at. Some sort of incentive besides the pledge awards listed off to the side. We are however treated to a few character designs of some of the team which I thought was nice and or the most part I like their designs:

We are however treated to a few character designs of some of the team which I thought was nice and or the most part I like their designs:
Mr. Amazing – Who wears what is essentially Apocalypse armor from Marvel Comics (I know it isn’t, but come on... the similarities are way too unmistakable).
Chad – Who is wearing street clothes but has a rather electrifying red right arm and glowing eyes. He looks rather miffed off. It’s simple, but I like it.
Slugger – Trucker hat, barely there corset (...?), loose jeans, a thong, sunglasses and baseball bats. You do not want to mess with this chick.
Split Second – Routine black/blue costume that makes him look like a black/blue streak of lightning when running.
Tiog the Alien – I can only assume this is the villain of the series, and man, he looks badass. He’s menacing, evil, strong and powerful looking. Probably one of the best alien warlord designs I’ve ever seen.
So yeah, that’s basically all we’re given. It’s enough to have me sold, but then again I can be easily pleased. The art is fantastic and it’s good to see new ideas being used out there to flip the superhero story on its ear.
