Summary: There is a new drug on the streets, only for the rich and wealthy people. But it is a drug that links you to the supernatural - and that is a problem. D.E.A. Agent Summer finds herself joining forces with a strange agent from a Spanish agency. She has strange powers and affirms to be the same daughter of the Moon!
Review: The gang at Amigo Comics was kind enough to provide a little backstory about Lunita's history. Which helps someone like myself out a lot since it seems there was some previous events that went down before this first issue. Said backstory was spoken of at the end of this comic, which again helps readers like myself and you out a great deal. And I imagine the G.E.I. title Lunita originally came from would be great for any hardcore collector to have if they were so inclined. Lunita is also nicely the introduction for Sergi San Julian to folks here in the USA.
And I certainly don't really have any complaints about his artwork! I also want to say that this comic really isn't going to be for youngsters since there is some adult themes through out the book. The DEA lady wanting to get up close and personal with a female soldier and later on Lunita herself is a prime example. And if that offends you for some odd ball reason, you may want to pass on this.
Not only does the creative team for Lunita give us supernatural elements and a slight bit of the feels for one unlucky mermaid, but we also get some corruption. At least to me it seems to be happening, and not just with the slightly foul mouthed cop either! The creative team also gives us a rather grumpy old man who seems more concerned with how money is wasted then anything else. Which I found to be a bit amusing when they showed him going over plans with Rodrigo that may not benefit our leading lady.
But hey, at least those plans are nicely helping out her old team mate! Then again, that could be leading to something pretty darn bad since that old guy seemed entirely way too happy over the whole thing! As for the mermaid, I could easily see her going on a wild kill spree rampage if she ever manages to get free. Complete with a potential full on hate for the human race due to the treatment she received. But at least some will likely be high off whatever drugs those people are making from her tears. Drugs are bad though so remember that folks!
The first issue nicely sets things up with a nice dash of comical here and there. Along with a cliff hanger that'll leave many wanting to really know what happens next. Myself being one of those! I do have to wonder though if the potential success Amigo has with the Lunita comic, if they'll try to bring back the G.E.I. Comic and hopefully have much better luck with it this time around? Something I wouldn't mind seeing possibly! I'm also pretty curious on this whole Daughter of the Moon thing that our girl Lunita seems to have a claim on. Something else I look forward to learning more of. So if you have yet to give this title a try, what are you waiting for!? Get to it! And while you're at it, be sure to check out the rest of the titles Amigo has to offer!
