Summary: This chapter sees the gang face the maniacal Magic Man, when he steals Jake and Finn’s voices the two must team up with all the Princesses in the world to take on Magic Man and get their voices back.
Review: This issue actually felt like a fresh of breath air. After an ultimately satisfying but drawn out arc, it was nice to have a single, one-off adventure that was just meant to be loads of fun. And it really was. We were treated to many freakin’ awesome Princesses that I would like to see more of (they should make an anthology comic just about the different Princesses of this world), and an experimental way to not only tell a story but use narrative that I’ve never seen before. And hey, even the secondary story at the back of the book was a lot of fun this time!
So let’s get into what I didn’t like first. In some ways the narration, which had Finn and Jake expressing their dialogue in imagery instead of actual words, was hard to understand. It was like playing Pictionary with my comic. I will admit though that if you stopped to think about everything, it all made perfectly logical sense, so I’m not really downing, so much so that I didn’t feel like needing to take the time out to decipher every line. I will admit though it all pretty much made sense to me in the actual panel images so that works. Lumpy Space Princess still gets on my freakin’ nerves. And the villain was pretty one-note. Magic Man is his name, for a one-off adventure I can understand not giving your villain much purpose, but even so he felt so uninspired in his personality that I couldn’t really tell him apart from any other character in the series, unless he did an actual bad deed. His abilities of irony magic though were pretty dang cool.
Seeing how excited BMO got over Jake and Finn’s new speech pattern was heart-warming, it was like seeing someone get excited over their friends finally becoming fans of a show they liked. Trust me, I know how BMO feels when it does happen. It’s a glorious occasion. I was also happy to see every Princess willingly participate in the rescue mission to get Jake and Finn’s voices back, they don’t know Jake or Finn that much (I’m assuming they don’t), so why would they help? Well, revenge, anger and just plain wanting to do bad things to Magic Man are all good guesses, but I still like to think they’re all just that cool. The art is still stellar in this series, I like the noodle look to everyone, it’s just so cartoony and I like it.
The back-up feature showcased a rescue mission to save BMO from total oblivion and self-destruction after Princess Bubblegum accidentally took BMO over the limit of his abilities. The feel of the comic was epic as the art displayed that, but there were some ideas here that were very far out sci-fi that I enjoyed, like Bubblegum looking at all known universes just to get ready to see a star and make sure she could. I enjoyed that. I like seeing Jake take on different forms to suit the occasion, in the main story it was make-shift body suit/armor for Finn, this time it was fighter plane and I laughed at how upset he got at the idea of losing the show he had downloaded 4 seasons of onto BMO when they had to wipe BMO’s memory. I know those feels bro. All in all, it was a very solid issue and a step up from the last few issues of the series. Now if only Fionna and Cake can do the same in the next issue I’ll be truly happy.
Final Score: 4.5 “Battle Damaged Action Hero Princesses” out of 5

Summary: Kerri Masters is retired and living a normal life, working a mundane job and taking care of her son Daniel, seemingly at home with her decision to retire. Then, a mysterious woman approaches her with a job offer and throws her entire world into question. Was she right to retire five years ago? If she comes back, will it ever be the same as it was before?
Five years after the tragic end of Fallen Justice we find Kerri Masters struggling in more ways than one with the events of the past. She has retired, and seemingly moved on from her former life as one of the most powerful heroes in the world. But when she meets a mysterious woman who offers her the chance to return to her glory days as the costumed heroine Dynagirl, she must finally come face to face with the ghosts that seem to haunt her wherever she goes.
Review: For those of you who tend to prefer super hero chicks as the main character in a book. Like Ultimate 7 and Red Angel, Dynagirl will be something you'll want to check out. Not only is Kerri Masters aka Dynagirl the main character, she's also a mom who does her best to take good care of her son. Kelley's writing has me sold on it as he manages to keep you fairly entertained through out the book. As well as maybe a bit curious on one or two things. Like why her formerly living husband went on a rampage several years ago. I bet that would be an interesting read as either a flash back or taking the time to make a one shot on it. Although I get the feeling in later issues a flash back to what went down may be told. The banter between Dynagirl and her fellow Waitresses are part of what I wound up enjoying a lot as I read this issue. The fact that one of them is fairly open to certain things is also a nice touch that leads to amusement. So if you aren't exactly open minded, this book is not going to be for you.
And I know exactly how Kerri feels when someone knows your name and its cause of your name tag. Makes you feel a little weirded out at first until you realized its cause of that tag. An issue I have with this book is Claire. And its mostly because she seems a little too friendly, like she's putting on an act just to get Kerri on board and stay on. A little action she does later on only furthers that suspicion I have about her. Now yeah I probably could be wrong and she's naturally just that darn friendly since there are folks like that out there. That'll probably just have to be one of those wait and see situations I think. I kind of find myself wondering if Harold Edge gave the women big chests on purpose as a way to mock the Big 2's way of doing things, or its just how the designs wound up being for them. Although Kerri's rather slightly big rear does give me a reason to be reminded of a certain Sir Mix-A-Lot song. I am curious though if Claire's boss has anything to hide as well or is just genuinely wanting to put a Super team of his own together.
But as time goes on, I'll be eventually getting all my answers and the ride to all those will be quite a time I imagine! Another example of needing a clear mind while reading this is when it comes to Kerri's roommate. Who I kind of think either has some more then friendly feelings towards her best friend, or towards the long dead husband. Although considering a talk Kerri was having with her mom, I may be more closer to the first thing then I am the second one. Either way, I look forward to seeing where this part of the story goes. As well as just what comes from Kerri's later decision. So if you have an open mind, get yourself a copy of this title as soon as you can! Also a special treat somewhere in this book if you happen to be a fan of this particular author!
