Before we begin with the reviews. I'd like to take the time and mention that this edition of reviews is dedicated to a good man who passed on recently. It is my hope he's resting well in Heaven. See you around Mr. Barefoot, was great having the chance to know you.
Storm Chasers #5
Unstoppable Comics
Created, Written, and Lettered by: Jaydee Rosario
Pencils and Inks by: Russ Leach
Colors by: Michael Summers
Reviewer: Robert McClelland
Summary: In the wake of the events from Stormchasers #4 Ms. Freedom is tasked with putting together a new team of Stormchasers. Who says yes,and who says no? Featuring the 1st appearances of a new casts of heroes to the Unstoppable Comics’ Universe.
Review: Now its been awhile since ol' Rob got to lay his eyes on a title from Unstoppable Comics from start to finish. And I got to say, it was nice to do so. Even if I am reading a bit ahead into the show. Which for those of you who followed me on InvestComics, you might remember when I reviewed the 4th issue of Storm Chasers way back then on there. And that Ms. Freedom's pride and joy got kidnapped at some point. I bet her estranged husband is going to be somewhat annoyed at being the one to get the blame for it just cause of the whole estrangement. If he doesn't already know by this point at least. I'd be wanting to pull a Stone Cold moment on someone. I like that this is for the most part, a team recruitment issue. Giving the reader a chance to check out who all is going to be on the team. And perhaps wanting to know some back story on a few things that get mentioned. Even setting up a potential threat in the character Orbitor's base. You just know Ms. Freedom's probably going to have some kind of classic self guilt trip when she learns about that when all is said and done. Although I kind of think ol' Orbitor is getting a little too comfortable with a taken woman. Jaydee is doing a terrific job with the writing. And if you have yet to experience any of his work. You seriously need to check some out as soon as possible.
Russ Leach's art skills give me no complaints. And while some may think a few characters resemble some well known long time ones. At least you know where Jaydee got his inspiration from. Another possible event set up is after Ms. Freedom visits a light house. Now Jaydee has unfortunately left us a teaser with that. And sadly, for all I know whatever happened there happened in a previous issue I haven't gotten to see. Or its a recent happening. But at least you know whoever was there, did his or her best to kick some serious booty. One particular character I'm curious about, is a giant talking Ape known as Pandamonium. Hopefully Jaydee decides to do an origin story on him. As it sounds like it'd be a fantastic read. Now Unstoppable Comics does offer character guide books to help you get better familiar with characters. So that is a plus right there. Personally I can't wait to read the next issue to see what kinds of antics and the like the new Storm Chasers are about to bring to the world. I get the feeling its going to be one wild ride as they set out to save a baby. So drop on by and grab yourself some Unstoppable Comics!

Star Wars: Legacy (vol. 1) - Broken
Dark Horse Comics
Writer: John Ostrander
Penciler: Jan Duursema
Colorist: Brad Anderson
Letterer: Michael David Thomas
Reviewer: Derrick Crow
Summary: As this era begins, Luke Skywalker had unified the Jedi order into a cohesive group of powerful group of powerful Jedi Knights. It was a time of relative peace, yet darkness approached on the horizon. Now, Skywalker’s descendants face new and resurgent threats to the galaxy, and to the balance of the Force. The events in this story begin approximately 130 years after the Battle of Yavin. [taken from the inside of the book]
**SPOILERS**
Review: Roughly 125-130 years after Luke Skywalker destroyed the first Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope, we have a new Galactic Empire overseen by a an Emperor who is also a Jedi and it seems every other character in this book is a Jedi which is strange because at the same time the Sith have created an army of red-colored aliens of all kinds, all who wield red-colored lightsabers and have apparently pushed the Jedi back for enough years that it is once again unsafe for Jedi to go out in the open, similar to the Great Jedi Purge of the Dark Times seen between episodes 3 and 4 of the original movies.
The story opens with the Emperor having recently gone into hiding and the latest Sith Lord, Darth Krayt has taken command of the throne with very little to absolutely no resistance. And we meet Cade Skywalker, the last in of the namesake and a bounty hunter who has turned away from the way of the Jedi after almost being killed years earlier as a kid by the Sith and having watched his father die before him.
This story set up some great ideas, like the fact that a Sith Lord who doesn’t hide behind cloaks and doesn’t care if people knows he is a Sith Lord has created a Sith army and taken over the Empire in the way it should have been done long ago by Palpatine. I always did think the Sith really needed an army instead of this “there can only be two” bull crap we’re used to. Also here you have a Skywalker who isn’t a Jedi and is really sort of a douche so it gives a new look on the whole hero format. We also get an Emperor who has fully embraced the Jedi ways instead letting the Jedi be the only police around. And lastly you get the sense that this Dark Lord of the Sith is fallible and even perhaps not 100% evil like you think at first, and that intrigues me.
But unfortunately, a lot of this falls flat as everyone being a Jedi now really demeans the Jedi code as none of the imperial Jedi act like Jedi as they all give into their emotions, and it makes you wonder how Jedi then were even overwhelmed by the Sith. Speaking of the Sith, so far no Sith character but the Darth Krayt has been given any kind of personality so far, also save for 2 Sith warriors EVERY SITH WARRIOR is red with marking all over them like Darth Maul, even if they’re not of the same race and that’s just really lazy writing and character designing to me.
The pacing goes way too quickly in this, and character meet up under contrived and ‘force’d (see what I did there?) circumstances without any time for this to feel like an actual adventure. Instead it just feels like a re-hash of old Star Wars storylines with cannon fodder Sith & Jedi thrown in for tension. And yes, if you aren’t a main character, you will die with 1-2 panels easily in this story, even if it is one Jedi up against dozens of trained Sith warriors, unless they’re main characters, he will kill them all within a panel. And visa versa with Jedi dying. There’s just a never real sense of urgency.
Legacy is usually regarded popularly by fans as the series that took us far into the future to show where we were headed and also to tell an adventure tale without having to constantly reference over comics, novels or movies. It really was free to do what it wanted, and it shows but not completely in a good way. Though I do like Cade Skywalker as a character, his two fellow bounty hunters and shipmates still lack very little in anything resembling a personality even after 6 issues with them.
I will say what Legacy does right is that it keeps its promise at giving us a whole new look at the Galaxy Far, Far Away. But there are just so many characters introduced with no real amount of time given to any of them to grow their character it’s been hard for me to care about if anyone dies right now and the series just ends. But I do hope to see if it gets better and will continue to grab this series in hopes that it will get better.
Ostrander definitely has a voice for Cade in his writing, and enjoys writing the explosion scenes I can tell, but Cade is more or less the only character in this whole comic who gets fleshed out really in the slightest. Everyone else just seems to die. He needs to slow his pace and allow his characters to get into events more naturally instead of rushing them just so he can get from one place to another. I feel he may get into his stride though and I look forward to seeing what he’s cooking up next.
Duursema on the other hand has a gorgeous art style and one strong point for me on this book was his art and I could gush over at least one or two things on every page, often times even three or more! He has a knack for expression, facial features and movement though sometimes things seem a little stiff but those are mostly during the lightsaber fights. I hope he stays on the book, because that will give the series much more of a boost than it surely deserves.
All in all, an interesting book and though I wouldn’t call it a great experience yet, who knows what the future holds? Well, Dark Horse does or they’re wouldn’t of made a comic like this.

Call Me Perilous #1
Enemy Transmission
Writer: Michael Kuty
Pencils, Inks, and Colors: Daniel G.A. Goiz
Reviewer: Robert McClelland
Summary: Enemy Transmission’s resident alien scientist/kung-fu master finally has his own series!! For those of you that were left wanting more of ol’ Perilous from reading Valhalla Cindermane, now’s your chance to dig deeper into what makes Perilous tick! This one has it all – talking gorillas, vampires, riots in the streets.
Review: My first initial thought artwise for this book, is that it reminds me somewhat of 90's styled art. And if you never had a problem with any of that era's art. You're in good hands then when you get your read on with this issue. The fact Daniel doesn't have much in the way of big chested women running around in this book is a plus in his favor. Perilous to me is kind of like a mix of Wolverine and Nightcrawler. Mostly cause of his seeming longevity and his blue skin. And before you start wondering if Perilous is some kind of mutant or experiment or some such. I'll just say he's a bit more out special then a mutant or an experiment. So special in fact that he survived some sort of big boom way back in the day in this Earth's history as shown in the origin we get to also see in this book. How's that for some resiliency? I have to wonder if the friendly relationship he's developed with one particular girl is what has kept him from being entirely jaded. Or worse just becoming full on evil. Either way, kudos to his friend. Even if she does get him to do something that's just a huge no no in Superheroics. Michael Kuty's writing keeps you interested from start to finish. I love that he's seamlessly written in history for Perilous. Especially with his past, how he knows Contrary, and other issues he had to face over the years.
I think it gives the character a bit more of a fleshed out feeling. And I wouldn't mind reading about some of the older times in Perilous' life. Burden is someone that seems to live up to his name. Since he winds up causing some issues for a lot of people. Mostly bringing about the Bath Salts equivalent of some angry people. Only not all Zombie like. And once things have settled, hopefully Contrary will be smart about not going with Perilous into future situations. Be a crime for a beauty like that to get snuffed out. Not to mention I imagine ol' Blue Man would possibly go off the deep end for sure if something fatal happened to her. Another part of the whole History side of thing I was talking about is how there's use of King Arthur material in here. Even though this is the first issue, you just know that once Ravenna and Perilous face off. That's not going to be one pretty fight. Kind of not sure who I want to root for either. But let's just hope both survive Blacken's attack. And despite the short time we had to see him before the issue ended. I actually quickly grew to like him. I mean, how can you not like a witty bad guy!? I can't wait to see more of this guy, and once you've read this. I'm sure you'll be rooting for more!

Seventh Dimension Of The Devil #1
Blue Eye Comics
Writer: Lee Kolinsky
Illustrator: Arifin Samsul
Reviewer: Robert McClelland
Summary: Seventh Dimension of the Devil follows the story of Julie Summer, an eleven-year-old girl who must come to terms with being chosen to capture the Devil on the seventh dimension of the earth before it’s entirely corrupted by the seven deadly sins. With the help from Julie’s father and guardian Allan, the duo learns about a wager that could mean the beginning of the Devil’s salvation or the end of heaven.
Review: When I was sent this, I wasn't too sure of what to expect. Not to mention I wasn't sure how heavy handed the religious aspects might get. But I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't that bad with the heavy handed religious side of things. Although my initial impression of 'Lou' as he likes to be called is that he looks way more like a punk kid then some tough scary looking Fallen Angel as seen on the cover. A concept in this book that was explored a little is the idea of their being 7 Earths. Now this has me wondering if its Lee Kolinsky's twist on the whole 7 days to make Earth story. And it most likely could be. And from what I can see, they all seem to have different aspects. Like for the final Earth (and the only one we really get to see any action in.) experiencing rain for the first time. Arifin's art reminds me of the style that seems to be a bit prevalent in the comics over at BlueWater Productions. And no, I'm not saying that in a bad way. Some might or might not agree with me on that. And I could just be seeing something that isn't there. But Arifin's art is pretty great however. And something I wouldn't mind seeing more of. I'm pretty curious about what all exactly these Animal Sins can do. As the father of our would be savior only really went into it a little bit. The fact their world doesn't experience much in the way of violence or the awesomeness of rain makes it sound like a pretty boring place.
Then again, if you never knew either of those. You don't know what you are missing out on. Granted, violence is never a good thing. The fact that Julie is reluctant to do much of anything and also having trouble believing what her dad is saying. Shows some believability to this story. Since the whole thing seems to be a bit fast paced. Which I honestly believed a few things could have happened in separate issues as time goes on. Instead of happening all at once. The Devil taking issue with what God did with the Seven Earths has me wondering if Lee is a fan of The Prophecy films. Because I really love the somewhat similar idea that's in this. Only of course it seems in this world, God seems more like a betting Holy being. Which if I knew that about the Creator for certain, I wouldn't be filled with much hope. After all, I certainly wouldn't want Him/Her using my Soul in some bet! Even if He/She was certain of the win. One thing that had me wondering is if whether or not smoking was a known thing in the 7th world. Or if Julie is just one heck of a sheltered girl since she didn't know why a pipe would be having smoke coming out of it. And I love how that despite the tenseness of the situation. She's a bit more worried about her father going too fast while driving.
Go you kid for thinking of road safety for others! Its a darn good thing that the Devil never had come to this Earth at an earlier time. Because I can only imagine how screwed everyone would have been if the Guardian at the time had been something like a Roach. I do like the concept that the Role of the Guardian can be something that's not just limited to Humans. But I'd be hoping and praying it'd be some kind of ferocious beast instead of a house pet or some such. I'm still not sure how exactly absorbing a soul into your body gives you the appearance of a fully grown woman. Albeit an eleven year old in a fully grown body. Just something I have trouble wrapping my head around since its not really explained. Another issue I have is how her fight with 'Lou' ends. After the slight build up to get to the end of the issue, we get something I felt was rather anti-climatic. Which just leaves me feeling that this could have happened in a later issue after she had some experience fighting. And actually show more of a fight then what we got. Makes me wonder what her mom's reaction is going to be everything. And if there's any special significance to a pair of bells. But as I mentioned earlier, I felt that for a first issue, this was too fast paced and left one or two things unexplained. And that some events could have taken place over several issues. Rather then all at once. However, despite my disappointment over how things went, I'm willing to check out to see what issue 2 brings us. So come on down and join the ride!
