Review: Well here we are with the last chapter of this story and I’ve got to say that Gigio doesn’t disappoint us. It’s interesting to see his version of Lucifer’s fall from Heaven and how the Garden of Eden might have been created or at least the one place on Earth that’s as close to heaven and paradoxically to hell. Naples, Italy where it all began.
Well with Vergil behind the wheel and taking them where they need to go the boys are off but their arrival hasn’t gone unnoticed. This really is a great group of such eclectic characters with different personalities that not only make this interesting but fun to read as well.
So as things are heating up we head to the former White House and see Renshu take control of matters there and give this uppity little President her walking papers. While I didn’t like her, nor trust anything about her it’s a shame she was really nothing more than a pawn in the end. Though I do find it interesting that it’s China that has risen up with all this power to take over the world and pretty much subjugate it. It’s not exactly unreasonable to think it could happen and with that nation’s instability and fervor it does make for a dangerous worldwide enemy.
So as things start to come full circle and the boys now have to face the Chinese military in Italy as well as the girls they’ve been fighting Vergil enlists aid of his own from an unexpected source that we saw earlier in the series. As the Adam and Gianni try to get away from the fighting the girls catch up with them and well and finally we see who Gianni truly is. I might not have known which one he was but I knew he was one! What I hadn’t expected was what would happen to him once he stepped up to defend Adam. This was a great story twist and it really did take me by surprise.
What didn’t however was Adam's shall we say righteous anger and subsequent attack on these minions, well whatever the hell they are when the girls change into some feral forms.
Seriously I’m really digging how this all unfolds, it’s pretty amazing in how it’s all been tied together. With the young girls talk of sacrifice and such there have been plenty of hints about what will stop Lucifer’s return and the Apocalypse but what we get here is the culmination of everything so far wrapped in a surprising ending.
While I hadn’t expected much of what happened to occur I have to say Renshu’s fate was befitting the man he was. And if the last page is any indication the eternal struggle of Lucifer’s attempt to escape Hell will come again. This really was a great story and I urge everyone to get it and read it, you’ll probably love it in one sitting and devour the series before you realize you’ve done it.
Nick’s work has grown steadily throughout the series and his artistic vision and use of page layouts and finding their personalities in their faces has done wonders in drawing you into the story. They really help you feel what’s happening here and that’s a major bonus in my opinion.
Here’s a perfect example of why you should open up to reading small independent books but unknown creators because they have to ability to surprise you, let you discover great new talent and introduce to a world where you are rarely disappointed.
